1. I want to know something about the Residence

You must know tree things about us:

 

  • Ilinizas is the oldest Residence and the most modern of Quito.
  • Between all the university residences of the city, Ilinizas is the one with most services.
  • The house is very close to the principal universities of Quito. You can get there just walking a few minutes.
Our residence was founded in 1957 by mons. Juan Larrea Holguín, when still was not a priest. In 1995 the old house was demolished and a new house was built in the same piece of land.

 
2. Which religious community does the Residence belongs?

The Residence is in charge of a group of professionals (lawyers, engineers and people from others careers) who live in the house but also dedicate the rest of the time to their professions.

There also lives a priest who is in charge of attending the guys when someone needs him. The spiritual formation is in charge of Opus Dei.

 
3. Is it for Men or Women?

Ilinizas is a Residence just for men. Women could go to a similar Residence named Tulpa, which is located at the street Gonnessiat and González Suarez in Quito, Ecuador. The phone number is (593-2) 223-2639.

4. What services does the Residence offers?

Ilinizas offers to the residents the following material services:

  • Lodging
  • Four meals per day
  • Washed and ironed clothes
  • Diary cleaning in the rooms
  • Various study rooms (personal and group)
  • A big library with books from all the careers and a monthly subscription of many magazine
  •  Computer rooms with Internet
  • An Audience room with capacity for 100 people where we organize conferences, courses and seminars.
  • Basque ball field, racquet and waly
  • Sports, picnics and goings on retreats

About the human formation and religious Ilinizas offers these facts:

  • A big and beautiful chapel for 180 people, where we celebrate mass everyday for the ones who wish to go.
  • Opportunity of doing social labor.
  • Priest assistance for the ones who need it. These religious activities are trusted to the Prelature of Opus Dei.
  • Various academic activities.
 
5. Do we have seminars, courses, conferences and other academic activities at Ilinizas?

In effect, every year Ilinizas’ Residence organize numerous open activities to the residents and non-residents, like seminars, conferences and academic chats and doctrinal.

For example, before starting an academic year, the Residences plans courses in order to prepare high school guys’ to give the admission tests for colleges (like SAT).

 
6. The rooms are simples or multiples?

In the house we have space for 28 persons. Almost everyone have a simple room. There are only 2 rooms for three students each one where stay the ones who have just entered to the house.

We consider that is convenient that the students who have just entered to the Residence must stay in the triple rooms so that they could integrate to the group. If after some time they have had a good behavior you will the passed to the simply rooms.
 
7. In what time can I be passed to the simply room?

Although every case is different, you can be passed after 5 or 6 months, although there are cases that we pass the students in less time.

8. How much is the cost of living at Ilinizas?

The monthly pension is $440.

Additionally the first time you enter to the residence you pay a register fee of $220.

Furthermore, the ones who enter to Universidad de los Hemisferios receive a discount of 20% in the register value.
 
9. Do we need an extra payment for other services like cleaning the clothes or Internet?
flecha_arriba

No, you don’t need any extra money for anything else inside the Residence. The $410 covers everything like: meals, clothes’ cleaning, Internet, sports, etc.
The only thing that doesn’t cover the register payment is: a) the first time register of $205; and, b) the cost of the seminars that are organized at Ilinizas because the assistance is not obligated.

 
10. Does the simply room have an extra cost?

No, it doesn’t. All the residents pay the same cost.

 
11. How is the method of paying the bills for the Residence?

It is quite simple. Your parents will pay it in your own provinces or countries just depositing the correct value in the bank.

12. What I can do in order to enter to the Residence?

In order to enter to the Residence you should follow the steps of selection and inscription that are in this Web site.

 
13. There are many people who apply to enter to the Residence?
flecha_arriba

Every year we receive a big number of solicitudes to enter to the Residence. But despite to our limited space we can not receive just a few of them. So, the ones who are keen in coming to the Residence we recommend to start the transacting as soon as possible.

Generally, we receive more postulations to enter to the Residence in September, and less in February. So, it’s easier to enter en February than September.

 
14. What capacity does Ilinizas have?

The Residence shelters like 28 people. Generally, 6 of them are the house’ directors and 22 students.

15. What rules does the house have?

Then Residence has the same rules as any Ecuadorian home. There’s a schedule of entrance at nights, meals, room’s cleaning, etc. No one can exceed on drinking, and we stimulate to the students to study and doing social labor.

In essence, we have the rules of a Christian home.

 
16. What happen if the University’s schedule doesn’t allow me eat at the Residence’s schedule?

Nothing, we take your meal at the moment you arrive to the Residence so that you can assist to your classes regularly.

 
17. Is it obligatory to assist to Holy Mass everyday?
flecha_arriba

No, it doesn't. It is totally voluntary. In fact, there have been people from other religions who have lived in the Residence and have felt very comfortable.

We only require the students to assist to a weekly chat on Tuesdays after dinner. There we speak about the Christian doctrine and the reasons of the moral norms.
